It is small but mighty! A retreat doesn’t have to have 50 people to be amazing. In fact sometimes the small group retreat 3-8 people is the most impactful retreat you will ever attend. Spiritual retreat experiences come in all shapes and sizes, and the small ones can make a huge impact!

The UMC in Southern California have a new small retreat center in South Pasadena called Mariposa Retreat Center. It is a lovely house with five bedrooms and four and half bathrooms. It has beautiful indoor and outdoor meeting spaces. It sits in a quiet neighborhood, set back off of the street.

Real rest and renewal can happen when a small group of people gathers in sacred time. Mariposa Retreat Center provides a space for transformation, renewal and connection. Mariposa is a space in which poetry and conversation flow freely. It is a place where inspiration and vulnerability show up. At Mariposa people reconnected and establish new friendships. Worship and table fellowship are celebrated at this small, but mighty retreat center.

I was once asked, “Can I just plan a retreat for me and a few of my dear friends?” My answer is, and was, “YES”!

Maybe you know a few moms who work hard and need a few days to step away from their duties, and just join with other women in conversation and relaxation. Mariposa would be a great place for that!

Maybe there are some clergy colleagues you know who keep sharing with you their frustration at working too much, and not having time to just sit and read or rest.

Mariposa would be the ideal place for them.

Maybe you have some energetic young adults in your life who want to play and share ideas and dream up a future for themselves; Mariposa would be the ideal spot for them! We all need down time. We are hungry for connection. We work at a crazy pace. A small spiritual retreat at Mariposa might just be the sacred time you need to reset, unplug and really connect to God and others.

I encourage you to go to the Mariposa website and inquire about dates for a retreat. It may just be one of the smallest by mightiest acts you do today!
